Mazda MX5 MK3 NC Roadster Coupe Luggage Rack : Revo-Rack Black
The Revo-Rack is an innovative luggage rack for the Mazda MX5 NC that eliminates the risk of paint damage caused by steel clips or straps on the boot lid edge.
The Revo-Rack was developed in 2016 for modern convertibles, as panel gaps are only 2-3 mm - there is no room for a traditional metal clip on the boot lid edge without a high risk of paint damage.
With the Revo-Rack luggage rack, no metal touches your car - only soft rubber vacuum cups that use atmospheric pressure to attach the rack to the car. The grey buttons on the side of the cups physically pump out the air - these are not suction cups.
The Revo-Rack is independently tested by TUV Italia, part of the global TUV testing and certification company. The rack underwent speed, braking and force tests according to ISO 11154:2006 – the international standard for roof racks – and the European General Safety Directive 2002/95/CE. Revo-Rack passed all these tests: It is the only luggage rack sold globally that has been tested to this level.

The Revo-Rack frame:
This luggage rack is made from 25mm 6063-T5 tubing – an aluminum and magnesium alloy that will never rust. The frame therefore weighs just 1.672kg. The crossbars are machine welded in place to ensure consistency. The Revo-Rack measures 90 x 42cm.
The cups:
The rack is attached to the car using three 120mm vacuum cups, which the manufacturer states can hold a load of 18kg / 40lb each. These are very different from suction cups. Vacuum cups use atmospheric pressure to grip a surface: When there is a vacuum between the cup and the surface it is attached to, the weight of the Earth’s atmosphere holds the cup in place with incredible force. Unlike suction cups that create a vacuum as they are pulled away from the surface, Revo-Rack vacuum cups use a hand-activated pump to effectively remove air between the rubber pad and the car paint – creating a much more reliable hold. Because the entire surface of the pad is brought into contact with the car, distortion is reduced, allowing the cup to be used with very little risk of damage.
The Revo-Rack vacuum cup pump has a piston with a red line that acts as a vacuum indicator. A few strokes of the piston evacuate the vacuum pads, sealing them securely against the paint. When the cup is fully attached, the piston stops moving and the red line is hidden in the pump. A visible red line indicates that air has leaked back into the pad and the vacuum is insufficient. However, if the red line becomes visible while the cup is in use, a check valve allows the user to re-inflate the cup without losing the remaining vacuum.
